July 2015

The unveiling of Janna Brown Design Co. is a daydream that has become reality, and thanks to the brilliant Becky Hoppmann of Gracious Brands, is coming to fruition in the most exquisite way. The allure and femininity laced through the site steals my heart, and I’m left swooning at the sumptuous beauty dripping from the pages. Sleepless nights, anticipation of collaborations, hours on hours, days on end of design, and sweat and tears have built this darling dream. I hope that you enjoy this creation as much as I do! Xx

From the Bride… “We wanted our wedding to be a celebration of our relationship and all of the things it is: full of unique beauty, brimming with old-fashioned-meets-modern romance, sweet and a little bit wild, dreamy-eyed for days gone by balanced with our joy for now and tomorrow – all framed by the people we love and cherish most.

We know our love story is the only of its kind, and we wanted our wedding to be the same way. Relationships and romances are like fingerprints; no two are the same. Grayson and I wanted to put our unique stamp on our wedding by not following any specific rules while still sprinkling in traditional rituals and elements as we wished. Nashville and the surrounding areas have a multitude of wedding venues, but Grayson and I were initially unsuccessful in finding the place that was perfect for us. However, we soon got word of a new venue, Ravenswood Mansion, just south of Nashville in the idyllic rolling hills. The historic venue, built in 1825, wasn’t due for restoration completion until a month prior to our wedding, but we took a gamble and set our date. We wanted unique and we got it: we were the very first couple married at Ravenswood.

For aesthetics and creative direction, we turned to the brilliantly talented Janna Brown of Janna Brown Design Co. (who also happens to be my sister). Her taste and style are flawless, and we trusted her to take our ideas and run with them. She listened to what inspired us, what we were drawn to and considered all of the outside elements. Her professional expertise and creative ideas not only guided the overall creative direction for the day, she made it a truly personal and touching experience for both us and our guests. In addition to providing/styling all of our props and vintage rentals, Janna surprised us throughout the wedding day with gorgeous details and touches that we could never have imagined. Her vision and coordination with Kara Anne Paper for calligraphy and signage created some of the most memorable touches of the day. She created a hand-drawn crest for our wedding day of Ravenswood Mansion that appeared on cocktail napkins, hand-painted cookies and more. In addition, Janna and Kara created a “logo” of our two beloved dogs—Buddy and Linus—which was found on custom koozies and more hand-painted cookies. To name the multitude of elements such as these that Janna Brown envisioned and executed would be impossible. I’ll just say that she far exceeded our wildest dreams for a wedding day ripe with beauty, styled to the nines and attention to detail at every turn.”

from Magnolia Rouge… “For Sara and Anthony’s styled engagement shoot, stylist JANNA BROWN DESIGN CO. worked with soft shades of blush, cream and grey to create warmth and softness to be captured by Sarah. Janna tells us, “The location at the Stables at Russell Crossroads provided an ethereal glow, and the wind blowing through the sea of wheat looked like a scene from a fairytale. SILK & WILLOW’S swoon-worthy silk cascaded over the decor, and rippled in the breeze along with the tulle on the gorgeous JENNY YOO Annabelle dress. LERAE EVENTS provided florals that were gorgeously wild and unruly. The sun set over the field and allowed for an amazing day of shooting as we ventured deep into the woods for a few darker shots at dusk. The moodiness of the final images created the perfect closure for our stunning shoot.“

from the bride herself, Janna… “The day that my husband and I wed is a day that has wrapped itself around my heart and has been imprinted into my mind for all of my days. I ached to see the smile of my father–to have him there to walk me down the aisle–for the warmth and comfort of my mother and sister’s doting love and laughter as they would help me slip into my dress, reminiscing on days gone by, and for the sight of the sweet tears that would roll down my grandmother’s face and fill my heart with joy. Alone in our thatched villa in the wild bush of Africa, thousands of miles from our loved ones, I bowed my head in prayer and I felt serenity wash over me. This day, this feeling, these memories will never fade.

As we wound through the African bush, I closed my eyes and felt my soul awaken as I inhaled the crisp air into my lungs. The wind tugged at my curls and my skin tingled from the chill in the air… I could feel the spirit of the land running through my veins. The lull of the engine slowed as we approached the ceremony site, and my heart began to beat faster. In the distance, I could see my strapping groom in his tall leather boots and suspenders, waiting patiently. Jabulani and each of the other elephants saluted me with their trunks aimed toward the heavens as I grew closer to the lantern-lit aisle. I slowed, my body imploring that I take in each second. Jabulani, the gentle giant, and I locked eyes, and I resisted the urge to praise him for his patience. In the distance, I could hear the scoffs of disapproval from the baby elephants who were being shied away from their posing mothers. I felt as though I was soaking up the soul of Africa through my bare feet asI drifted over the rose petal covered bush floor. As I reached my groom, I exhaled euphorically and listened as the Ghost Birds gave their blessing. We became bonded through Christ as Mother Nature surrounded us and cloaked us in her beauty. Our souls will forever be willfully bound to this soil, and our hearts will ache to be in the presence of this ethereal land until we return once more.”

from 100 Layer Cake… “If our bride’s darling fit ‘n flare gown tells you anything, it’s that this wedding sure was pretty (hello, lace and tulle!). With 300 people in attendance at Leah’s childhood home in Alabama, Leah and Caleb simply wanted a classically romantic day spent celebrating with their guests. Thanks to Simply Bloom Photography for sending these light-filled photos our way—such a perfect fit for L + C’s wedding design! Leah, on their wedding inspiration: “Simple, classic and elegant. We wanted everyone to feel like they had fallen in love with their loved ones all over again!”

from Simply Bloom Photography… “Be warned that the beauty in this shoot may make you a bit dizzy. We were completely overwhelmed with glory with the styling that Janna Brown elaborated for this styled shoot. She is the beauty IN the photos and also the mastermind and executor of every last detail you see here. It’s no wonder she is one of our preferred vendors we suggest to all our brides. This woman knows style, decor, aesthetic, and it is just effortless and her way of life. So much effort and vision was put into this shoot, we were smitten from beginning to end! The dress that Janna wore are from one of our favorite online boutiques: Shop Gossamer. The swoon-worthy calligraphy were all made by Kara Anne Paper. This fall inspired wedding styling took our breath away and we hope it will have the same effect on you…”

We were blessed with a gorgeous sunset, subjects and an affectionate white horse who posed sweetly for some ethereal shots. All he was missing were wings to make it the fantastical creature we saw him to be. Enjoy dreaming alongside us with these captures…”

Embark on a photographic journey, following our adventures throughout South Africa! As we “set sail” on this life-changing journey, we had no idea how much our hearts would be changed, and how much of this country we would soak up into our souls.
Our itinerary sent us from Atlanta to Amsterdam, to London, to Johannesburg, then to Cape Town, where we finally met up with our dear friend Marie of Sarah Marie Photos. Marie captured all of these beautiful images through her lens.
2015-07-09_0002 2015-07-09_0003 2015-07-09_0004 2015-07-09_0005 2015-07-09_0006 2015-07-09_0007 2015-07-09_0008 2015-07-09_0009 2015-07-09_0010 2015-07-09_0011
Saturating ourselves in the culture, and soaking up each sight in a desperate attempt to remember each and every detail, we floated through South Africa, falling in love each step of the way. Over two weeks we were fortunate enough to explore the city of Cape Town, Camp Jabulani – the elephant camp where we wed, Richard Branson’s ultra luxurious private game reserve,  Johannesburg and thousands of miles open road in between.
The hungry children of Akani melted my heart, the chants of local tribes singing around the fire are still ringing in my head, the rush of racing on horseback through the wild bush and being stalked by leopards cannot be put into words, and the experience of marrying in a land that seems a little closer to heaven is a blessing from God. Africa? A distant friend that I ache to see again.
